This striking 5-bedroom family home in Staffordshire effortlessly blends the existing character with bold contemporary design. The bespoke house was a full transformation from greenfield site to landmark home.
The site is set behind protected Scots Pine trees, offering both privacy and challenges. The natural surroundings needed to balance with ambitious architectural vision, ultimately creating a home that felt grounded yet expressive.
Working alongside B3 Architectural, Smytheman Architectural and C2C Consulting Engineers, DYSE helped to engineer a steel-framed structure that supports dramatic cantilevers and panoramic views. A floating steel spine staircase and zinc-clad elevations demanded precision detailing and robust structural solutions. Our team ensured clean lines, concealed drainage and impeccable integration of traditional materials, like buff brick and Staffordshire blue clay tiles, with modern elements such as Siberian larch and blue zinc.
From early concept to completion, we worked with the design team to provide technical input on steelwork, load paths and movement joints. Being able to coordinate with architects and fabricators ensured that the vision was realised without compromise.
Zinc House is now a much-loved family home, but its delivery required careful structural thinking. Surrounded by pinewood, the result is a residence that quietly integrates into its setting whilst showcasing the value of collaborative, detail-led engineering.
