As part of a cycle of redevelopment and modernisation of existing assets, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are systematically modernising their existing Fire Stations. Matlock Fire Station was a dilapidated and outdated asset. The scheme sought to provide a replacement two storey Fire Station with associated appliance bays and training facilities including smoke house and training yard.

Key features

  • New two storey steel braced frame with composite floors.
  • Appliance bay with cantilevered external washbay to house four vehicles including specialist vehicles.
  • New smokehouse training facility simulating residential and commercial property training scenarios. This includes a part subterranean structure to facilitate different training scenarios.
  • Integration of SuDS into the overall scheme, providing a significant betterment to the previous site.
  • Re-profiling of site levels.
  • Project designed to respond sensitively to the local area and achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating.
