Leyland Green

Leyland Green Barns is a sensitive residential conversion that transforms disused agricultural buildings into a delightful contemporary home, preserving its rural character while meeting modern living standards.

Set within the greenbelt near Garswood, the site comprised of deteriorated barns and a demolished farmhouse. The challenge was to create a high-quality bespoke home without compromising the openness and heritage of the surrounding landscape.

The design reinstates the character of the barns through careful restoration and reuse. One barn becomes a spacious four-bedroom home while the other provides a garage and storage space. Large bricked-up windows are reopened, with timber-framed windows introduced and the reuse of reclaimed materials a key part of the design. Slate and profiled metal roofs echo the original aesthetic, ensuring the conversion feels authentic yet future-ready.

Close collaboration with Richard Hopkinson Architects, planners and the client shaped a solution that met greenbelt policy requirements. DYSE’s structural expertise ensured the barns were suitable for conversion, addressing stability, load paths and integration of modern services without altering the historic silhouette.

The result is a home that exceeds standards, blend seamlessly within its rural setting and breathes new life into buildings that may otherwise have been lost over time. Sensitive landscaping maintains openness, while improved access and parking make the property practical for modern living.
