Killamarsh Police Station

A tired, deteriorating police station in Derbyshire was no longer serving the local community. It needed to be replaced with a purpose-built fresh facility. The new Safer Neighbourhood Team hub has been built to last with sustainability as a core part of the design.

Located at Delves Road, Killamarsh’s previous station – which was once two police houses – was no longer fit for purpose. Nestled in a residential areas so as to better serve the community, it desperately needed a new building. Demolition was approved in late 2022 and the vision was clear; demolish the old, rebuild the new purposefully and remain accessible to the local area.

The new two-storey station features load-bearing masonry walls, engineered mono-pitching trusses and precast concrete floors. DYSE provided full structural and civil engineering design, including external works, and SuDS, significantly improving site drainage. The building includes secure offices, meeting rooms and advanced security systems tailored to modern policing needs.

In April 2024, the old building was demolished alongside safe asbestos removal and groundworks preparation. DYSE, James Totty Partnership and Derbyshire Constabulary worked on the plans together to make sure that the police station matched the needs of the policing team. Now the site includes parking, better perimeter fencing and energy-efficient features like air source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels.

The new station is a community-focused hub, keeping the Safer Neighbourhood Team rooted in Killamarsh and visible to residents, fulfilling community expectations. Indoor areas include offices, meeting rooms, changing areas and interview suites, designed to evolve with policing needs for the next 60 years. Sustainability sits at the heart of the design, aligning with Derbyshire Constabulary’s commitment to greener buildings and reduced carbon footprint. DYSE’s combination of traditional massing with engineered solutions ensures durability, compliance and longevity, while SuDS deliver markedly improved surface water handling.

The facility opened in Spring 2025, marking a £1.6m investment in local policing infrastructure.
