Henley Gate footbridge provides a vital link for pedestrian and cyclists, supporting the delivery of Ipswich’s largest housing development; Ipswich Garden Suburb. This bridge will link the Henley Gate and Fonnereau sections of the development.
Located in Ipswich, the bridge spans the East Suffolk railway line, connecting new homes with the town and surrounding amenities. Due to its location, the site demanded minimal disruption to rail operations and a rapid installation.
DYSE engineered a robust steel structure with precast concrete elements, balancing strength, durability and speed of assembly. DYSE provided visuals and 3D construction sequence animations for overnight installation, and arranged independent CAT II checks in-house, ensuring compliance with National Rail standards and allowing for minimal operation downtime.
We were on board early to ensure that the bridge was installed safely during a single possession window. Working with Beaver Bridges, we were able to do some precision planning and create designs that could be adapted to the client’s final requirements.
The new footbridge will enhance sustainable travel, linking the communities and reducing over reliance on cars. The project was delivered on time and with minimal disruption demonstrating how smart engineering and teamwork can unlock major housing schemes.
