Henley Gate – Footbridge

Henley Gate Gate Footbridge

Site Location: Ipswich

Services: Bridges

Two new bridges over the railway for the Ipswich Garden Suburb linking the Henley Gate and Fonnereau developments.

The vehicle bridge carries a new local road and is a weathering steel composite bridge of 46m span.

The new shared use footbridge was an all steel construction with a 34m main span over the railway with approach ramps and stairways.

Our key challenge was to deliver bridges for a housebuilding client whilst providing all the assistance and skill in design to meet the technical requirements of both the local authority and the rail authority.

We visited the site when the Henley Gate housing development was already being on site but there was no concept yet for the crossings. DYSE carried out an options s tudy for both bridges and the recommended option was carried forward for each.

Once our client won the design and build contract the bridges had to be fully designed, fabricated and constructed within a period of only 12 months to secure funding timescales.

DYSE developed highly buildable and durable solutions that could be installed rapidly over the railway with minimal disruption in a Christmas blockade. DYSE provided visuals and 3D construction sequence animations to aid understanding of installation in a tight blockade

Both bridges were checked in house with independent CAT II check teams.
